Summer temperatures at the factory and warehouse of Pownall & Hampson, a leading manufacturer of pillows and duvets, have been decreased by around 10 Degrees Centigrade following the installation of Breezair Evaporative Cooling. Temperatures on the factory floor have been reduced from sweltering summer highs of around 35 Degrees Centigrade to comfortable ambient temperatures of around 25 Degrees Centigrade.
Despite installing fans and extractor units within its 15,000 sq.-ft factory in Dublin the company found that a poor thermal environment and inadequate ventilation was causing unpleasant working conditions for its 45 strong workforce. Dismissing air conditioning as prohibitively expensive, Keith Stevenson, Director, looked for an alternative solution. This came with the installation of Breezair, which draws 100% fresh air into the building and then expels heat, odours germs and airborne contaminants.
Both the factory and warehouse roofs are made from Kingspan, which insulates the heat generated from the processing plant, which in summer is exacerbated by high outside temperatures. With the Breezair cooler, however, as the temperature outside rises, the systems cooling capacity increases, ensuring that the building remains at a comfortable and constant temperature. Breezair also keeps air moist, which helps people suffering from allergy or asthmatic conditions.
“We have installed three Breezair coolers to provide cooling in the factory and a fourth for the warehouse”, says Keith Stevenson. They work really well by providing spot cooling at key areas throughout the factory as well as in the warehouse.”
